The second variable
The Calendar, Because the Month Changes What You Should Book
Length of stay is the first variable and the month is the second. This page is what a desk that works the calendar rather than a map has instead of a list of viewpoints: twelve months, what each does to a standing vehicle, and when to ask early.
01The two things a month decides
What the standing does to the car. A week in July is not a week in January. Heat is the whole story between May and September, dust matters most in the monsoon weeks, and between November and March the weather does very little to a parked vehicle at all.
How hard the space is to get. Tucson fills with winter visitors, and the effect on this mile is real but narrow: a few weeks where monthly and long weekly space needs asking about early, and the rest of the year where it does not.
02Month by month
| Month | What it does to a standing car | Supply and lead time |
|---|---|---|
| January | Nothing much. Cool nights, mild days, low sun | Tightening. Winter visitors are here; ask a week ahead for a week, three for a month |
| February | Nothing much, and the pleasantest month to leave a car | The tightest weeks of the year on this mile. Ask three weeks ahead for a month |
| March | Warming. Shade starts to be worth something again by the end | Still busy early, easing by the last week |
| April | Warm days, cool nights. Interior heat becomes noticeable | Easy |
| May | Heat begins in earnest. Shade is worth paying for over a week or more | Easy |
| June | The hottest and driest stretch. Interiors get very hot on open ground | Easy |
| July | Heat plus the start of the monsoon. Dust film and short violent bursts of rain | Easy |
| August | The same as July with more moisture. Dust washes and re-settles | Easy |
| September | Still hot into the middle of the month, easing after | Easy |
| October | Pleasant. The month where none of this matters much | Easy |
| November | Cool. Shade stops earning its keep | Beginning to fill toward the end |
| December | Cool, low sun, long nights | Holiday weeks are busy for short stays, not for months |
Read the second column when you are choosing a grade of stall and the third when you are choosing when to send the request.

03The three patterns worth knowing
Heat is a length of stay problem, not a temperature problem
One hot afternoon does nothing lasting. Fifty hot afternoons in a row do, and what they do is concentrated in the interior, the rubber and the plastics rather than in the paint. That is why a shaded stall is a modest addition on a five day trip in June and a sensible one on a five week trip in June.
The monsoon is short bursts, not a season of rain
Between roughly early July and mid September the pattern is dust, then a heavy burst, then dust again. What it means for a parked car is a film that washes off, and occasionally a very hard hour of wind and water. It is not a reason to change your plans and it is a reason not to leave a window cracked.
The desk sheet on monsoon weeks goes through it.
The winter squeeze is narrow and predictable
It is not the whole winter and it is not dramatic. It is a handful of weeks in which monthly space and long weekly space on this mile need asking about early. Short stays are barely affected at any time of year, because the field's own lots absorb most of that demand.
04What this page is not
It is not a weather forecast and it is not a claim about any specific week. The patterns above are what a desk sees year after year on one mile of ground; they are described as patterns and not as data, and no figure on this page is offered as a measurement.
It is also not a reason to rush. Nothing on this site counts down, nothing says how many stalls are left and nothing pushes you to book today. If a week is tight we will say the week is tight and let you decide.
